Tether Freeze, Bitget Hack, and BTC Breakout Analysis

Published on 9/25/2026, 2:32:02 AM

Tether faces liquidity risks following a bank freeze, while Bitget suffers a massive hack. Despite these headwinds, Bitcoin shows signs of a breakout toward $100,000.

Recent reports indicate Tether's offshore banking partner has frozen its funds following a US seizure, creating immediate uncertainty regarding the stability of USDT. While the headline highlights this as a potential risk, the immediate impact on the token's peg remains to be seen. Separately, the crypto exchange Bitget has halted withdrawals after detecting unauthorized transfers totaling nearly $352 million, with CEO Gracy Chen citing IP addresses linked to a North Korean hacking group.

On the technical front, Bitcoin is currently trading at $84,000, its highest level since January 2026. Analyst Benjamin Cowen suggests that a strong weekly close above $82,000 is required to confirm a breakout toward $100,000. Conversely, Ethereum has broken a year-long pattern and printed a higher high, though a bearish RSI divergence warns of a potential pullback.

Macro markets show mixed signals, with the S&P 500 closing flat despite a collapse in breadth and surging yields. Tom Lee anticipates that rising yields will benefit strong firms and predicts a sharp cooling of inflation within six months. However, the combination of a Tether liquidity freeze and a major exchange hack introduces significant downside volatility that could overshadow technical breakout potential.

This analysis is for educational purposes only and does not constitute financial advice. Market conditions are volatile, and the freezing of bank funds or exchange hacks can lead to rapid liquidity crises. Investors should conduct their own research and understand the risks involved in digital asset markets.
